When radiation is used to treat skin cancer it is the use of x-rays to eliminate the skin cancer cells. It will usually take multiple visits for treatment before the skin cancer can be completely destroyed. It will take place over time. Skin cancer radiation treatment is generally used when skin cancer keeps coming back or is particularly resistant to treatment.

Skin cancer radiation treatment is not a first option for treatment. There are cases, however, where it is the only option that is available. Many times the condition of the patient or other mitigating circumstances will require the use of radiation treatment for skin cancer. The reasons that skin cancer radiation treatment might be used are many. It could be that the patient has other health considerations that prevent them from undergoing other forms of treatment.

The area where the skin cancer is either too large or in an area that is not conducive to treatment with surgery are other reasons that radiation treatment might be sought. It is always possible that a skin cancer has been treated but is reoccurring frequently.

Many tough skin cancers have been effectively treated by this means. One class of patients had been suffering a 50% recurrence rate for their skin cancers, and radiation cut this probability in half to 25%.

There are some risks to treating skin cancer with radiation, however. You may develop new skin cancers in the area that surround the affected area. If the skin cancer reoccurs after the treatment it may be that much harder to treat because of the radiation. And you might experience damage to your healthy skin in the same area.

Radiation treatment of skin cancer carries some significant side effects. These include loss of energy and appetite, hair that falls out, and persistent skin redness. These side effects usually last no longer than the radiation treatment.

If you are thinking about this type of treatment for your skin cancer, chances are your doctor has gone over these side effects and possible risks. You will need to consider your own situation very carefully to determine if this is the correct course of treatment for you. Skin cancer radiation treatment may not be your only option and you should make sure that your doctor has gone over every other possible solution.

Signs of Skin Cancer – The Letters of the Alphabet

By knowing the five signs of skin cancer and what skin cancer looks like on an affected person, you would be able to determine whether or not you should check with a doctor. However, always err on the side of caution and see a doctor if you notice something unusual on your skin as it could be an early warning sign of skin cancer. The signs of cancer can be divided into the letters of the alphabet.

When examining your skin, remember that the letter “A” stands for asymmetrical growth patterns. Cancers will grow in patterns that are irregular or unevenly shaped. Monitor your skin regularly to check for any new growths with unusual shape patterns.

For the letter B, we should think about the border of the growth. Skin cancer does not have an easily distinguishable border. Watch out for this in any growth that has appeared on your skin.

The letter “C” represents color and informs you for watching out the color of any new growth on your skin. The colors of skin cancer could be brown, black, translucent, tan, blue or red.If you come across a growth in these colors it might be one of the signs of skin cancer.

It is important to remember that the letter D is for the diameter of the growth. A growth with a diameter of more than a quarter of an inch should always be looked at by a medical professional. Growths that are of this size or larger have a greater chance of being or becoming cancerous.

Elevation is just one of the five signs to look out for when watching for skin cancer. The letter “E” is usually used as a term to represent what elevation means. It defines that a growth can grow elevated above the skin and appear uneven. It is important to watch out for.

You are your own best defense in the fight against cancer. Pay attention to your own body and your own health and you will be doing a great deal to keep yourself healthy. If you notice any of these five signs of skin cancer you should consult your doctor immediately. Only a medical professional can tell you for sure if you have a skin cancer growth on your skin. Any unusual skin growth will need to be evaluated and tested to determine if you are in the beginning stages of skin cancer. Remember, the success rate for curing or completely eradicating skin cancer in the early stages is very high.

Detect and Act during the Skin Cancer Early Stages

Receiving a diagnosis that you have skin cancer is usually taken very hard. You probably do not know what you can do next as decisions hare hard to make in such an unnerving time. Luckily, the chance of you surviving skin cancer is usually very good as long as it was detected early.

The best chance of keeping skin cancer under control is to be aware of your skin and notice any changes early enough to catch it before it progresses. Your odds of beating it greatly improve if you are proactive and catch it early.

In the first stages of skin cancer you will find out whether you have a non-melanoma skin cancer or a melanoma skin cancer. Early stages for both of these have a very good prognosis for survival. A basal cell carcinoma is very rarely spread beyond a second stage so the prognosis is very good if this is the type of skin cancer that you have.

Being diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer it can be scary. The good news is with early detection the stage I and stage II survival rate is very good, almost 100% for 5 years. However, if it’s found at stage 3 the survival rate drops to 60%. This stresses the importance for early detection, as it’s the biggest cure for melanoma skin cancer.

It is absolutely vital that you regularly check your skin at least once a month. A doctor should also see you regularly so that your skin can be checked as a part of your normal physical. If you notice anything suspicious on your skin you should have it checked out by a doctor immediately. This is especially true if you have a mole or discoloration that is changing shape and or color.

If you have a wound that will not heal, it could possibly be melanoma. Check with your doctor as to what to look for when conducting a self inspection of your skin. Knowing what to look will make it a lot easier to report any condition that may be of concern.

While skin cancer first appears, it averages about a pea-sized growth, it steadily grows larger and can spread to other organs or tissue throughout the body. At this point, removal and treatment becomes difficult and the risk of death increases.

The Three Main Different Types of Skin Cancer

One of the most common forms of cancer is skin cancer. It is easy to prevent it, and it is very curable, but it must be detected early on. There are three main types of skin cancer that you might see on your skin.

Click Here to Get Bill Henderson’s Book “Cancer-Free” and to Join His Crusade to Help As Many People As Possible

The first type of skin cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. They are generally found in areas that have been overexposed to the sun. The face and ears are typical locations for this type of skin cancer. With squamous cell carcinoma, you will most often have a bump in the beginning and it will eventually turn into an open sore that will not heal. It will continue to get larger and larger if left untreated. It will also spread to other parts of the body if you do not get treatment for this type of skin cancer.

The next kind you should be aware of is the most common. Basal cell carcinoma makes up three quarters of all skin cancers. The face, hands, and neck are the places it typically appears. If discovered quickly enough, basal cell carcinoma has effective treatment options and can usually be cured without too much difficulty. Frequently, an irritated sore that bleeds is an early sign of basal cell carcinoma. However, sometimes basal cell carcinoma can be overlooked because the sore may also resemble a fresh scar.

Melanoma can be found on any area of the boday, and it is widely recognized as the most dangerous form of skin cancer. Most of the time you find it first on the arms and legs, where it looks like a mole or freckled. Instead of a new mole, it could also be an old mole that suddenly changed shape, size, or color.

It is imperative that the melanoma type of skin cancer be found and eradicated early to prevent the problems that will come with the later stages of this skin cancer.

Regardless of the time of year, care should be taken to prevent skin cancer. Make sure that you protect your skin at all times by wearing sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat if possible.

Be sure to wear clothes that keep exposed areas covered. Wear your hat to keep your neck and face protected. Be sure to examine your skin for potential skin cancers frequently. Early detection often makes the difference to survival.

Simple Ways to Prevent Skin Cancer

Though skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, it is also highly treatable and preventable when taking the right precautions. By monitoring your skin frequently and taking preventative measures (such as using sunblock), you can reduce your risk of getting skin cancer.

Click Here to Get Bill Henderson’s Book “Cancer-Free” and to Join His Crusade to Help As Many People As Possible

First and foremost, try to avoid the sun as much as you can. Seek the shade provided by trees, beach umbrellas or buildings wherever possible. Wear hats and lightweight clothing to cover your skin, protecting it from the sun’s rays that could cause lesions leading to skin cancer.

It’s important to remember that it is possible to be sunburned even when in direct sunlight. You may become sunburned during a cloudy day, or even when underwater in a swimming pool. You should use caution even in such situations.

One of the most effective ways to prevent skin cancer is to apply sunscreen. You should make sure to be wearing at least SPF 15 when in the sun, or stronger sunscreen depending on how easily you burn. Also, be sure to reapply after swimming, or if you are sweating heavily.

Make sure that you protect the delicate skin of children. Children who are under six months old cannot wear sunscreen on their skin. Keep them out of the direct sunlight at all times and keep their skin covered. When they are old enough to wear sunscreen make sure that they have it on every time they go out to play in the sun. Warn your children of the dangers of sunlight and tell them to stay in the shade whenever possible.

Skin cancer can be treated but it is important for you to pay attention to any changes to existing growths or new abnormalities that appear suddenly. It is most important to watch for any changes like increase in size or irregular shapes. Watching for transparent or multicolored growths on you skin is a must. And furthermore, it you have any cuts or wounds that don’t appear to be healing, consult your doctor promptly.

Join the Thousands of People Who Have Read Bill Henderson’s Book And Are Free of Cancer Today as a Result

It is important that you examine your skin every month. Even though this should be part of your routine check up at the doctor’s office, it is also important to make it a habit to do so at home as well. This is one of the best ways to prevent skin cancer. Examining your skin on a normal basis will allow you to detect any abnormalities. That way, if you see anything that does not look right, you can get treatment right away before it becomes too serious.

There are a number of effective treatment options for basal cell carcinoma. The Mohs Micrographic Surgery can be used to excise the cancer while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue intact. Layers of the cancer are removed and examined until the cancer is completely removed.

During the examination, if the doctor finds cancer cells he starts removing the thin layers continuously. Once the doctor finds that only normal tissue is left, he stops removal of further layers. Alternately, the doctor might use a normal incision to remove the skin cancer; however, in this case he might also remove some of the normal tissue along with it.

Cryosurgery can be used to freeze the skin cancer cells and kill them. The use of a laser to focus light that will kill the skin cancer cells. Radiation therapy may also be used for the treatment of skin cancer. The x-ray will be used to shrink and kill the skin cancer tumors. A lotion that uses chemotherapy can also be used topically to treat skin cancer. The chemotherapy will kill the skin cancer cells when the lotion is applied on the affected area.

The skin cancer treatment options that are used will depend on the individual case that is being treated. If you are recently diagnosed with skin cancer you will want to discuss your treatment options with your doctor. Remember to ask questions about the side effects and the success rate of each option.

You will need to have all of the information so that you can make an informed decision. Skin cancer must be treated so that it does not begin to spread to other parts of the body. If you have been lucky enough to catch it early you will have a great many more options available to you than if you are in a later stage of skin cancer.

As you can imagine, skin cancer detection is important for you. Skin cancer is a cancer that is quite common. Fortunately, it is also relatively easy to detect with self inspection of your skin. But aside from early detection, you can and should do everything within your ability to prevent skin cancer from ever occuring in the first place.

Click Here to Get Bill Henderson’s Book “Cancer-Free” and to Join His Crusade to Help As Many People As Possible

As part of a routine physical your doctor should make the skin cancer detection by examining your skin for any abnormal growths or discolorations. You should also be checking your own skin at least once a month. Checking your skin for skin cancer is quick, easy, and painless.

Start by finding a well lit room with a full length mirror. If there are areas that you have a hard time seeing during your self exam you can use a hand held mirror. The first time you do your self exam you will be taking the time to get to know all of your skin’s anomalies. Careful examination will give you a base for checking for changes in those blemishes and discolorations on your skin in future self exams. For now check anything that you have not noticed before.

Start with your face and carefully work your way down the length of your body. You may need help for parts of your body that are hard to reach. Ask your spouse or trusted friend with help for your upper thighs and lower back. You can use a mirror to help you if you have no such assistance available.

Pay particular attention to those areas that receive a lot of exposure to the sun. You are looking for changes in the shape and size of any mole or discoloration in your skin. You can get detailed descriptions of the different types of skin cancers.

Early detection is the key to successfully treating skin cancer. By making sure you are familiar with the regular appearance of your skin, you can take note of the appearance of any moles or other features of your skin. If you notice anything suspicious, show it to your doctor immediately. It might be harmless, but the only way to be certain is to have your doctor check it.

If you are fair skinned you will have to be extra careful with your skin. Make sure that you keep it covered when you are in the sun and always wear sunscreen on your exposed areas. Make use of hats and keep the sun off of your face. Good prevention and skin cancer detection are your best weapons.
